2018 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL // review, walk around, and test drive // 100 rental cars

This is rental car number 87 and today I’m driving the 2018 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL. The Altima, at least according to Nissan, is a “function” mid-sized four door sedan. This is a “functional” mid-sized four door sedan. It’s also the middle of the pack when it comes to Nissan’s sedans. In other words, it’s bigger (and better) than the Versa and Sentra, but small and less powerful than the Maxima. And less expensive (and not quite as fun) as the Leaf.

I like the Altima. It drives well, its comfortable, and has some decent tech features (although they are a bit out of date). My problem with it is that there’s just nothing special about it. It’s just not very interesting. So if you looking for something “fun”, you might want to look elsewhere. But, if you’re looking for a reliable, well priced, sedan to get you from point A to point B, well this might be the right car for you.

Anyway, that’s my quick take on the 2018 Nissan Altima. Thank you for taking the time to watch my review and, if you have a second, please do me a favor and leave a quick comment. Seriously, I’d love to hear from you. Let me know what you think of the Altima, how you think I might be able to improve my reviews, or just give me a quick “hey”.

I'm currently leasing a 2017 Nissan Altima SV 2.5 and I love it. The lease matures in March 2020 and I plan on refinancing the car instead of leasing another one.

6:03 I have to disagree I'm spinning mine right now and they click perfectly. I can feel how many notches I'm turning it up and there's no more I want, or should want, than that. Lol

I've owned a 2014 Altima 2.5SV for just over 3 years and 27,000 miles. Only purchased it because somebody screwed up entering the odometer reading at an auction and corrected it immediately after. Flagged as Odometer Fraud and I got it $5,000 below blue book due to it lol. Figured it would be a decent commuter, ended up loving this thing it's like a Lexus to me compared to my previous base model cars and trucks. You weren't kidding it is pretty peppy for what it is, and the fuel economy still impresses me.

Isn’t the SL the highest trim level instead of mid level?

I've been renting cars to drive Cleveland to NYC (and back) for years now (482 miles), and the Altima SL is the first vehicle I was able to make the trip on one tank of gas! Actually, about 3/4 of a tank! I was blown away by that alone.

So is this top of the line Altima trim? I’m confused with SL, SR and SV! Could u give me a break down of those 3 with their differences?

I just spent 8 days with an identical car during my Florida vacation. While the powertrain makes the most of a weak thrashy 4 cylinder and CVT, the 13-17 Accord CVT does a far better job in terms of performance and fuel economy. Not to mention the build quality of the Accord is far superior to the Altima.

I believe the Altima was Nissan’s top seller for many years before the Rogue took it’s place recently. I personally had three Altima’s in a row. A 2009, a 2013 and a 2015. Never had much of a problem to speak of. Got great gas mileage and many would comment on how comfortable their “Zero Gravity” seats were. I was even hit by a drunk driver and totaled on a freeway in the 2013 Altima and walked away without a scratch! But I would never waste my money on anything but the base model. That’s where this car made most sense to me. Super cheap leases.

Versa is a sub compact sedan. Versa is a compact sedan, Altima is a mid size sedan, maxima is a full size sedan, and the leafs is an electric and doesn’t really go with the sedans

I love the Altimas elephant head steering wheel….lol. The 2.5 Altima SL was one of my choices recently when I was considering buying a used third car for my wife and I. It's a good looking car with decent options and features for the price. Ultimately I bought a used Honda Civic but I still think this Altima would've been a good choice. I just wish Nissan would've included Android Auto or Apple CarPlay in their cars.
